I came out officially on Instagram on Aug. 11, 2021.Įarlier that summer, I was watching the Tokyo Olympics with my aunt and uncle at their house. I had been out to a few people since early 2021. The pandemic-caused break from school and the forced isolation left me with a lot of time to question my gender. The friends I was around gave me a lot of time to question my gender. My connection to my birth gender is complex and is always changing and shifting. The words echo in my mind before etching themselves into my memory, and I sink into the comforting feeling of knowing that there are others that feel the same way I do. "Someone asks me if I am a woman, and I say, 'sometimes,'" they say. The person in the TikTok video has somehow managed to describe how I feel about being a woman better than I ever could. I'm lying on my bed, eyes glued to the screen, unable to believe what I'm hearing. Winnipeg artist Zephyra Vun created original, flow art based on the themes and ideas within Tresoor's essay. Tresoor wrote this Creator Network essay, in part, to mark International Women's Day 2023. This first-person essay is the experience of Min Hecky Tresoor, a non-binary post-high school filmmaking student with the Sisler Create program at Sisler High School in Winnipeg.

Via a collaboration with local artists and F&B partners, you can also get limited edition collectible cards featuring each artist’s work. All funds raised from these sweet treats will go directly to support TransBefrienders. The Wa Ko Kuehs are retailing at $6 for a pack of six. Fun fact: the kuehs are specially made in colours of white, pink and blue inspired by the trans flag. Not to worry if you missed out on this workshop - sink your teeth into the Wa Ko Kuehs that will be available at the exhibition on 12, 13, 19 and 20 November 2022. Recently, an ondeh-ondeh making workshop was held on the 5 and 6 November 2022. On top of the exhibition, TransBefrienders is also hosting a month-long campaign filled with fun activities. Hopefully, this will also open up more conversations on topics that are initially seen as “taboo”, while educating many Singaporeans at the same time. It’s especially important for a conservative country like Singapore, where many are still unfamiliar with transgenderism. Through watching them talk about their real-life experiences, it encourages transgender youths to feel less alone. The exhibition will also feature video interviews of individuals sharing their experiences with gender dysphoria and transitioning.
These unique pieces are all made from each artist’s personal experience with gender dysphoria. The artworks come in a variety of mediums, ranging from sculptures to holographic prints and even an embroidered bedsheet. Take note that while it’s open to the public, the exhibition is expected to be rated R18. It’s Singapore’s largest transgender awareness exhibition, showcasing artworks by eight local transgender and gender diverse artists. But before we jump right into December, let’s not forget to celebrate Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance. Despite it only being November, many of us are already counting down the days to Christmas.
